Adult Jazz Dance Club is a beginner class for ages 18+ with no previous experience required. The 10-week series, instructed by SPdp&SS company dancers Raven Marsh and Lindsay McGivern will take students through jazz techniques, musicality, rhythm and history, utilizing an adaptive movement vocabulary to build a communal space for artistry and fun. These classes are for enhancing exercise, socialization, and stress relief. The series will end with a finale showing and mixer for all participants.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS:
Lindsay McGivern is a local artist with a BFA in dance performance and choreography from Slippery Rock University. During her undergraduate experience, Lindsay performed repertoire from various artists to include Helen Simonaue, Ursula Payne, Teena Custer, Jennifer Keller, Matthew Schaeffer, and Matt Pardo. Post graduation, Lindsay performed with SPdp&SS as an apprentice in their production of “worx”. Choreographically, Lindsay has presented work through Millennium Dance Complex Pittsburgh/ Salt Lake City and the Koresh Dance Showcase Series in 2020. Most recently Lindsay taught at Seton Hill University as an adjunct faculty member. During her time instructing, Lindsay was able to create a body of work called “Step Out: Stay Alive” as well represent SHU at the National High School Dance Festival hosted by Point Park University. Lindsay currently teaches at Intensity Dance Academy in Mars, PA and continues to share her artistry as part of the STAYCEE PEARL dance project & Soy Sos.
Raven Marsh, a Dallas, Texas native, began her training in ballet, jazz, modern, and contemporary at the age of 12. Raven graduated from the prestigious Booker T Washington Highschool for the Performing and Visual arts, which led her to pursue a degree in dance from SUNY Purchase. Raven graduated from the Conservatory of Dance in 2021, Receiving her BFA in Dance. She has performed choreography by; Davalois Fearon, Kyle Abraham, Maya Redding, Doug Varone, Kyle Marshall, and many others. In addition to being a performing artist, Raven enjoys Teaching yoga and dance and is passionate about inspiring people to use their bodies. Raven joined STAYCEE PEARL dance project & Soy Sos during the fall of 2021.
