The PearlDiving Showcase is the culmination of the PearlDiving Movement Residencies, presenting showings of new dance-centered multimedia work from Pittsburgh and national artists. The 2022 PearlDiving Artists are local artist Shani Banjeree and visiting artist Ada Pinkston.

Ada Pinkston is a multimedia artist, educator, and organizer living and working in Baltimore, Maryland. Born in New York, her artistic research interest spans the social sciences, global colon ial histories, American Studies, and community art practices. Her work has been featured at a variety of spaces including The Smithsonian Arts and Industries Building, The Baltimore Museum of Art, The Walters Art Museum, The Peale Museum, Transmodern Performance Festival, P.S.1, The New Museum, Light City Baltimore and the streets of Berlin, Baltimore, Orlando, Washington DC, and New York. She has presented lectures on public space at The French Embassy, NYU, UCLA and The National Gallery of Art. She is also an alumnus of the Monument Lab+Goethe Institute Transnational Fellowship. Her most recent work can be found in the permanent collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Shani Banerjee is a multidisciplinary artist and musician currently exploring themes about cultural significance, the push and pull of personal success and DIY culture through film and media. Movement and dance are a cornerstone of this exploration of character development for the short film, Genres. By working with classical Indian dance applied to new genres of music less culturally represented in her heritage, Shani hopes to bring together multiple worlds in which she exists both visually and sonically. Shani has studied art and music for over 20 years and holds a BA of Fine Art with a focus on film and photography.
