Welcome Home | Summer 2022
It has been a delight to welcome audiences back into Kelly Strayhorn Theater and KST’s Alloy Studios all year! And we are thrilled to present a summer of programming that continues to center creative experimentation, community dialogue, and collective action rooted in the liberation of Black and queer people. Welcome Home!
In June, Theater Communications Group (TCG) will have its first national conference in over two years in Pittsburgh. This event will welcome hundreds of national theater practitioners to town, and for the occasion, we are proudly remounting commissioned performances from Pittsburgh artists Lyam B. Gabel and Adil Mansoor. Also don’t miss parties featuring TQ Live! with SUPA’ NxC, Remy Black, Drake, Jesse Factor and DJ HUNY, and Vibes N’at, a celebration of the Pittsburgh BIPOC theater community with Jacquea Mae, Alumni Theater Company, Mita Ghosal, DJ Samira Mendoza and more!
The Alloy School is back in July with a 4-week session of classes including Hip Hop, Jazz Ballet, Creative Play: Water World and Dance Fit (18+). July also brings the return of KST’s summer fundraiser, reinvented as House Party on Saturday, July 16! If that weren’t enough, Legacy Arts Project is bringing Dance Africa back to the KST stage July 28-29. There will be performances and a marketplace with off site workshops.
Things quiet down in August while PearlArts’ PearlDiving Movement Residencies take place. Don’t miss the Friday, August 26 showing of projects in development from selected artists.
There is so much joy and artistic expression to experience this summer. Can’t wait to see you at home at KST!
See you at home,
Joseph Hall, Executive Director
