“Sonia Sanchez is a lion in literature’s forest. When she writes, she roars.” So said Maya Angelou about her friend and fellow poet. The prodigious Sanchez has been on the front lines of art and activism for 60 years–teaching, writing, performing, protesting. She was a pioneer of the Black Arts Movement, Black Studies, spoken word and Hip-Hop. But, her commitment to art and justice has come at a cost, and this intimate portrait captures the breadth of Sanchez’s rich and often unsettled life.

BaddDDD Sonia Sanchez is a performance-packed film, featuring interviews and appearances by Questlove, Talib Kweli, Nikki Giovanni, Amiri Baraka, Ursula Rucker, Ruby Dee, Haki Madhubuti, Imani Uzuri, Bryonn Bain, Jessica Care Moore, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) and more!

Followed by a community conversation hosted by Tameka Cage Conley.
